Today I have the honor to sit and have a small chat with a young, gorgeous and really talented t-shirt designer. If you guys like anime then you’ll definitely love her t-shirt designs. Check out our interview and her t-shirts on Teepublic!
Valentina, tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi everyone, I’m Valentina. I am a 26 years girl and I live in Florence. I attend the university of architecture and I already have a degree from a school of comics.
What got you interested in t-shirt design and how long have you been doing it?
I started designing t-shirts last March, but I have always been interested in graphic design, I was a designer of websites in high school. Later I preferred to focus on comics and drawing. Designing t-shirts I can combine my two passions.
If you were to pick a favorite design you have created, which one would it be and why?
Difficult question, I love every one of my drawings because I put a lot of effort into drawing them.
One of my favorites is Some Peanuts UP There (or Good Grief). It was my first design where I tried to imitate the style of another person. It’s so much more difficult to draw that using my style! For this reason, I was really pleased when i was succesfull.
I also love the design of Deadpool I’m working on now. It is a steampunk version of the Merc with a Mouth. I usually draw few details, I’m very essential, but in this design I had to force myself to add them because it’s steampunk.
I think I like to do difficult things and realize that I can do them.
Describe the general process you go through to design and realize a piece of work?
The idea for a design can come to me in so many ways, and when it arrives I will sign on a slate. I generally draw more designs at the same time because I can’t do just one thing.
First I make a sketch of my design and do the tests of colors (up to 5-6 colors). Then I ink I use photoshop or Paintool sai. For coloring I use Photoshop.
When you aren’t designing t-shirts, what are you up to?
I study architecture, but mostly I draw. In my free time I like to play video games, watch TV series or anime and read comics. I have really too many comics, they have invaded my house, luckily I go often out with friends.
Do you have any wisdom you’ve learned along the way you’d like to share with other aspiring artists?
Try to draw what you like and what you would like to wear, but always keep in mind what your audience might like.

I have a t-shirt addiction, a craving for new RTS video games and a dream to become Captain America. I also grow my own beard so I'm kind of a big deal! :P
