There is nothing better than a tee that you feel great in and super soft vintage t-shirts are my favorite. Everyone has that one shirt that fits perfectly and comes out of the washing machine super soft and comfy. It’s the tee that you wear on your lazy Sunday afternoons when you watch Netflix.
But finding a good vintage t-shirt that feels and looks old in consignment stores is a real pain. So here’s a little trick to help you make a vintage t-shirt yourself, with a little patience (3 days to be exact).
How to make a Vintage t-shirt yourself – step by step guide
Step 1 – Choose a tee
Any tee can become a vintage t-shirt but you should choose one that is one size bigger than what you usually wear, because the cotton will likely shrink during the process.
Step 2 – Brine the t-shirt
Just fill a bucket with 1 quart of water and 1/2 cup of salt and submerge the shirt in it and let it sit in the salt water for three days. After that just wash the tee as you normally would and you’ll get a magically soften vintage tee.
Step 3 – Brush off any logos or graphics
In order to make a tee truly look vintage, you’ll need to distress that logo or designs that’s printed on it. Use a piece of fine-grit sandpaper and stroke in a circular but irregular motion until the plastisol (that’s what the logo is) has worn off just the right amount.
Step 4 (optional) – Personalize it
You can either cut off the arms and make it a muscle tee or just cut a few holes here and there to give it a truly warn out vintage look. Check the video below.
If you’re lazy or lack the patience to make a vintage t-shirt yourself you can buy one from one of our featured brands below.

I have a t-shirt addiction, a craving for new RTS video games and a dream to become Captain America. I also grow my own beard so I'm kind of a big deal! :P
