There has been a need to try and make the Superman more “super” as opposed to the feeling that he is just as human as the “ordinary” human being. As it is now, the solution resorted to by the DC’s has been to incorporate the now famous Superman more superpower.
Superman has now been given a “super flare” power so that he can expel virtually most of the power within his cells. This expulsion leads to the creation of a bright and extremely powerful blast that has the ability to consume everything that is found the range of a quarter a mile.
The ability to use this kind of “super flare” power however, has a negative impact on Superman. It leads to the depletion of all the energy in his cells. This therefore leaves Superman powerless. He becomes human for about 24 hours before regaining the power thereafter. It thus means that it is a strong power but is only meant to be used as the last option in combat. Otherwise Superman has to use other tactics during war.
The creation of this “super flare” power for Superman was brought about by the famous writer Geoff Johns together with the renowned artist John Romita, Jr. in a book “The Men of Tomorrow” (last chapter). In this chapter, Superman is engaged in a fight with Ulysses. Ulysses too is super-human. He has the ability to absorb all the energy in the surrounding in order to gain Superman’s status. His speed too becomes just as high as that of Superman. So, in the fight between the two, Superman uses his heat vision to blast Ulysses. Ulysses uses his power to absorb the heat released by Superman. However, Superman employs his “super flare” power by beginning to glow and overpowers Ulysses. The fight comes to an end with Ulysses knocked out. And Superman passes out due to the loss of all the energy in his cells.
It is at this moment that Superman discovers his “super flare” power ability. The worn out Superman is told by Batman that it is this Superman’s heat vision that comes as another source of power ability. He says that Superman seems to have unleashed all the power in his cells, creating something like a solar flare. He then refers to this as Clark, a Super Flare.
DC’s has also tried playing with the costume of Superman ( more of a subtle revision).Superman’s suit has been modified to cover his entire body within a very short notice. It is a Kryptonian armor.
During the battle with Ulysses, a huge portion of this armor gets destroyed. Keeping in mind the New 52’s initiative of modernizing DC’s characters, this alteration in Superman’s costume is in accordance with the initiative.
The costume however still has much of the New 52 feel e.g. collar, suit lines, lack of red-trunks, and wrist guards. The armor is however considerably toned down. And just when we are talking about “new clothes” for Superman, why not show you some of the awesome Superman t-shirts that were topping the charts when Man of Steel was released? After all I am a teehunter!
