ExploreDonkey Kong, another iconic game from the oldies goldies shelf. It’s actually the game that originally introduced Mario to the world. Donkey Kong was the bad guy, who not unlike King Kong kidnapped the princess, took her to the top of a “building” and then threw barrels down at Mario, who had to climb the ladders to save the princess. And as we all know, he never stopped saving her after that.

The game was released in 1981, when Mario was still called Jumpman, and it immediately became a huge success. It had a series of incarnations after that but it was slowly in decline until 1994 when they released Donkey Kong Country, where Donkey Kong was the protagonist, along with some of his friends, ie Diddy Kong. In that game, you played as Donkey Kong, jumping through the jungle, avoiding enemies, and collecting bananas and special letters.
Other spinoff games also include Diddy Kong Racing and a dancing game called Donkey Konga. Donkey Kong also had his own animated TV series, which was pretty popular amongst kids and teenagers. The franchise also holds seven Guiness World Records, one of which is for the first ever video game to include visual story telling, as well as the record for most collectible items in a video game for Donkey Kong 64.
