ExploreThe year is 2071 A.D. The location is space. Our heroes are bounty hunters, Spike and Jet, who chase wanted criminals for rewards with their spaceship called Bebop. Since life on Earth as we know it doesn’t exist, and the people of Earth took refuge in space, the rules and common knowledge that we have is a bit confused. Which is why, when they pick up two girls along the way, one of them is named Edward.
The episodes basically follow a pattern of one bounty hunt per episode. But the thing that keeps it interesting is the execution and the character development. You get the characters background stories piece by piece, and you don’t know everything until the finale, when everything falls perfectly into place.
The animation is very good, especially for an anime that was aired in the 90s. The voice acting is great and the soundtrack is amazing. But what I like most about this anime is the concept. When you think about a civilization in space, you think Star Wars or Star Trek. Something intelligent, sophisticated, something with a lot of order. What this anime does, is turn the whole idea on it’s head and that’s what makes it so enjoyable to watch.
As I mentioned before, the voice acting is very good, but this is one of the very few anime series, where the original Japanese voice actors actually said that the English dub is better than the original. That means it basically boils down to prefference of what you enjoy watching more. Whatever the case, Cowboy Bebop is an anime that you have to see, even if you’re not a fan of anything I mentioned before.
