I doubt there’s anybody under the age of 40 who hasn’t heard of Grand Theft Auto if they are even remotely interested in video games. That being said, most people who haven’t really played it, know it as a stupid game where you go around, stealing cars and shooting prostitutes. But to be completely honest, there is so much more to it than just that. That might have been the start of it with the first game, but it has all evolved into a whole other level since then.

We’re living in a world that’s more and more politically correct. If you see a person smoking in a movie today, it’s highly likely that the person is either going to die from lung cancer or he’s the bad guy. Gangsters don’t curse in movies today. A person slams a hammer on his finger in a TV show and he screams Gosh darn it all to heck. Which is why Grand Theft Auto is such a breath of fresh air. It’s not just mindless shooting at things and watching the blood spatter. We’re used to that already (maybe too used to it). What it is, is violent and vulgar, but in a very believable way.

Even if you’re nothing like the character you’re playing, you can still relate to him, because even though he’s living in a grim world, he still has normal everyday, relatable problems. It has a great story, a practically unlimited world to explore, it’s funny, and yes, it’s even realistic – up to a point. So no matter what you might have heard about the game, don’t judge it until you’ve tried it.
