ExploreOkami is an action-adventure video game developed by Clover Studio and published by Capcom for Sony Playstation 2 in 2006, and for Wii two years later. The game was one of the last ones published for Playstation 2 before the release of Playstation 3, and while the initial sales were poor, the game got universal praise, and was even IGN’s game of the year for 2006.
The game is set sometime in Japanese history, and as such has many classical Japanese myths, legends and folk tales. You control the main character, Amaterasu, and progress through the story in a linear style. There are many side quests and additional things to do, so you can take the story as fast or slow as you wish. The graphic style of the game makes it seem like a traditional Japanese water ink painting, which in effect looks really beautiful.
But what really makes the game unique is the celestial brush, a system that lets the player pause the game to bring up a canvas. Then the player uses the brush for various special moves. You can create a strong wind by drawing a loop, draw fire with a certain stroke of the brush, you can cut down your enemies by striking a line through them, or repair bridges by drawing a new one, amongst other things. All of the above combined makes this one of the truly original games of our time, and it will gives you hours of fun and tranquility, I can personally guarantee that.
