South Park: The Stick Of Truth is truly an awesome game. As a fan of South Park, I feared the game would be horrible, but I was in for a real treat. It’s funny, it has a great story, and it takes you through virtually all of the iconic scenes of the TV show. I’ve had fun with it for days, and if you’re just starting out with it, here are a few tips, hints and tricks that will help you get through the game a bit faster.
1. You will get the option to pick your class at the start of the game. You can choose between Fighter, Mage, Thief and Jew. Here are the main abilities of each class. I’ve borrowed the descriptions from Sticktwiddlers.com
Fighter
- Assault and Battery: Clobber your foe with a baseball bat. On a Perfect Success, deal additional attacks.
- Roshambo: A swift kick in the balls resolves a surprising number of disputes. Stuns your foe if done perfectly.
- Bull Rush: Charge, headfirst into an enemy, having Armor, removing shields, and inflicting Defense Down.
- Horn of Irritation: Strips bugs from your primary target while taunting all foes – forcing them to attack you without special abilities.
- Ground Stomp: Crush your foes with a deadly pounce that hits all enemies. Deals more damage if done perfectly.
Mage
- Dragon’s Breath: Roast your target with a barrage of flame. Inflicts Burning status on Perfect Success.
- Dust of Dreams: Distract your foe with “magical” sleeping powder. If successfully performed, leaves your target Stunned.
- Lightning Volt: Zap your target with armor-melting, shield-destroying lightning. On a Perfect Success, additional enemies take damage.
- Funnel of Frost: Blasts a row of enemies with a freezing attack that removes beneficial status effects. Slows enemies on a Perfect Success.
- Pyre Ball: Hurls a ball of explosive joy at your foes – if done successfully, strikes every enemy in combat.
Thief
- Backstab: Slips it into the last enemy in a row, dealing heavy damage and if done successfully, Bleeding as well.
- Mug: Stuns your targets on a Perfect Success and then steals an item from their inventory.
- Execute: Pummel an enemy with a flying barrage of Armor-shredding and Shield-smashing weaponry.
- Stink Bombs: Toss rotten eggs at your target, causing Gross Out and removing beneficial status effects. Throw more eggs when done perfectly.
- Death of a Thousand Cuts: Call on your shadowy network of Thieves to ambush your foes with a barrage of attacks, each causing Bleeding if done perfectly.
Jew
- Sling of David: Casts the first stone at any enemy. Deals more damage if done perfectly, but can lead to self-injury if done improperly.
- Jew-Jitsu: Utilizes a secret Jewish martial art to pummel your target with a Stunning strike.
- Circum-scythe: Slices off the Armor and Shields of your target while inflicting Bleeding damage to a sensitive area.
- Whirling Doom: Sends your dreidel bouncing between random enemies, stripping away all beneficial status effects from all enemies hit.
- Plagues of Egypt: Summon a mix of Pestilence, Fiery Hail, Frogs, and Flying Insects to deliver woe unto all your enemies.
You can pick any of the classes, it’s just a matter of prefference. If you like magic spells, Jew or Mage are what you want to go for. If you like simpler fighting, Fighter or Thief is your more likely your thing. Though, to be honest, I would normally preffer a magic character, but here I found the fighter more enjoyable. The Thief will give you the most rewards though. The Jews have less energy, but they get stronger when they have less energy.
2. The classes are pretty well balanced, but it is good to remember your advantages when you pick your fighting buddy, as some classes help each other better.
- Cartman: Ruler of the Kingdom of Kupa Keep – Magic character with fire and damage abilities
- Princess Kenny: Princess – Buff character with gross out and “charm” abilties
- Kyle: Leader of the Elven Kingdom – Magic character with buff, stun and damage abilities
- Stan: Elven Warrior – Strong melee character with multiple target abilities
- Butters: Human Paladin – Buff character with healing and damage abilities
- Jimmy: Elven Bard – Buff character with PP boost, sleep, damage and buff abilities
3. Always have plenty of potions in your inventory. Most fights are pretty easy, but there are some that are very hard to beat without some back up, and some of them just take longer than you would expect.
4. Most attacks need you to time it just right for the most damage. Make sure you release the attacks when the light flashes, as it could be the difference between 100 damage and 600 damage.
5. You will be finding new weapons and armor all the time, so make sure you’re using the strongest ones at all times. It seems stupid, but a lot of the times you just forget to change it after a quest, because you want to go on with the story.
6. Talk to everyone you meet. Not only will it help you with solving quests, it will also make the story run faster as you’ll never run out of quests. It might also save you from backtracking.
7. Explore every locations as well as you can. Then if you get stuck, come back and see if something’s changed.
8. If you click on an enemy, you will see a more info option. Use it to learn about the best ways to defeat it.
9. It helps if you’ve watched the show, as there are so many references, and it will also help you solve some of the puzzles. If you’re still stuck anywhere, you can take a look at Pewdiepies complete gameplay/walkthrough videos.
10. Enjoy the game, it’s funny as hell. And everyone’s gonna respect your authoritah with one of the South Park t-shirts below.
