South Park was created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone in 1997. Since it’s very beginning the dark humor and crude jokes made it earn the highest ratings of any basic cable channel, and it even got 5 Emmys and a Peabody award. In case you’ve lived under a rock for the last 18 years or so, South Park follows the lives of 4 boys – Eric Cartman, Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski and Kenny McCormick – while they go around getting into trouble. The cast also features a ton of reccuring characters like Butters, Chef, Jimmy, Timmy, a whole bunch of celebrities and others.
For a show that has been running for 18 years to still be so hugely popular and relevant it’s kind of a big deal. One of the reasons for this is that it normally takes just 6 days for an episode to be created, from the original idea to the final cuts. That means that as soon as something happens in the world, they can already make jokes about it the next week. Check out 107 South Park facts in the video below.
You should be able to take a joke though if you’re a fan of the show. Because while it’s funny to laugh at other religions, other political views, other races and so on, sooner or later they will make fun of you. The show is an equal opportunity show, which means everything and everyone is fair game. That’s what makes it so cool. When they aired an episode about Scientology, one of the cast members actually quit. They don’t apologize for their jokes, they’re just telling the truth in a funny way, so why should they?
If you do have an open mind though, this is the show to watch. It will make you laugh in every single episode. And it will open your mind even more in every single episode. It will open your mind so much that it might actually fall out. So don’t be a minority, start watching the best show in the world. And get some South Park t-shirts while you’re at it.
