ExploreGreat news for Netflix fans. Netflix is releasing it’s first original movie and it should be amazing, since it’s the sequel to a movie that has earned universal praise, even though it wasn’t American. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon: The Green Destiny is bound to change history, or at least that’s what the hopes are for the top heads at Netflix. It will be released on the same day in the theatres and on Netflix, and it’s supposed to be the first of many movies released like this. If it all goes according to plan, Netflix could become the end of cinema as we know it.
The original movie had Michelle Yeoh, Yun-Fat Chow and Ziyi Zhang all doing very impressively choreographed fighting and jumping on everything including water and tree leafs. The sequel will bring back Michelle Yeoh, and it will be produced by Yuen Wo-Ping directing who choreographed fight scenes for The Matrix and Kill Bill. It’s principal photography is now underway in New Zealand.
“Fans will have unprecedented choice in how they enjoy an amazing and memorable film that combines intense action and incredible beauty,” Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement. “We are honored to be working with Harvey Weinstein and a world-class team of creators to bring this epic story to people all over the world and to partner with IMAX, a brand that represents the highest quality of immersive entertainment, in the distribution of this film.”
“We are excited to offer consumers the option of deciding how, when and where they want to view the film, and exhibitors the opportunity to participate in this alternative form of content in a new and innovative way,” said Greg Foster, CEO of IMAX Entertainment.
Weinstein added: “The moviegoing experience is evolving quickly and profoundly, and Netflix is unquestionably at the forefront of that movement.
“We are tremendously excited to be continuing our great relationship with Netflix and bringing to fans all over the world the latest chapter in this amazing and intriguing story.”
Oh, btw, as for some of the upcoming movies that Netflix will be doing? Looks like Adam Sandler is jumping on the horse, with signing a contract for no less than four movies in the near future.
