Independence Day was amazing. It was visually stunning, it had a great cast with awesome chemistry, it had aliens, and it also had just the right amount of humor. So everyone can be very happy and excited that they’re making a new one. That’s the good news. The bad news is that it’s coming in a year. And Will Smith will not be a part of it, because he’s too expensive.

They will be bringing back about half of the rest of the cast which is awesome. We will still get Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldbloom, surprisingly Vivica A. Fox will be back, and so will Judd Hirsch, and Brent Spiner (even though he dies in the first one).

Joining them are Liam Hemsworth in the lead role of Jake Morrison, William Fitchner as General Adams, Charlotte Gainsbourg as Dr. Catherine Marceaux, and Sela Ward as the current President. The roles of Dylan (Will Smith’s stepson) and Patricia (the President’s daughter) have been recast, with the roles being played by Jessie Usher and Maika Monroe respectively. If you’re one of the people who thinks they’ll miss Will Smith, just think about what would happen if he was in the movie, and his condition was to put Jaden in the movie as well.

But what are we actually going to see in the sequel? Well apparently, before we managed to defeat the alien race by plugging a Mac into alien hardware, the aliens sent out a distress signal back home. I guess it took 20 years (yes, it is that old), for them to respond, but now they’re back, with a vengeance. But now we also have some alien tech to help us defeat the aliens. Though their tech is still way superior. Oh and there should be some wormholes included. And as it is with any movie these days, if it does well enough the sequel will get another sequel. And probably an origin story along the way.
