Shawshank is hands down the best movie I ever saw. I would be hard pressed to make a top 5 list, because there are so many amazing movies out there, but I’m certain that Shawshank Redemption would be number one. I’m obviously not the only one who thinks that, since it’s also the people’s choice for number one on IMDB. It’s a very special movie. No matter how many times I watch it, it’s always as good as the first time.

First of all, the casting in that movie was spectacular. It definitely made Morgan Freemen that man with that amazing voice that he is today. Morgan Freeman is a man who could narrate anything and make it sound interesting. Seriously, he could be talking about taking a shit this morning and it would just sound beautiful. And then there’s Tim Robbins.

Tim Robbins is the perfect man to be put into a hell hole and still look like he’s just taking a pleasant walk in the country side. Because that’s what that movie needed. It’s ultimately a movie about hope. Even in the darkest places and the darkest hours there’s always something to hope for, and there’s always something that makes life worth living. That’s what that line “Get busy living or get busy dying” is all about. Just when you think they broke him beyond repair, Tim Robbins climbs through a river of shit and comes out clean on the other side.

Not to mention rich and free and building a boat for a friend that he hope might visit him in the next few years. And he does. He would’ve ended it after he came out of prison, but he hope to see his friend again too, so he decides to stick around and hope for a life without the daily problems of the past.
