If you guys are familiar with our last Giveaway with King of Shirts you may have a small idea who Wayne Maguire is. I sat for a small chat with the artist behind Inked Ikons and here it is. Thanks again Wayne for accepting my invitation, I hope our fans enjoy your art as much as I did.
Hi Wayne. First of all, would you mind telling us a little about yourself?
I’m an Irish artist with a degree in Classical Animation, but have moved away from much of the techniques I learned in College and started experimenting more with portraits as I realized that was more suited to my style.
How would you introduce your art to people who may not be familiar with it?
My art is a mixture of my love of tattoos and the tattoo culture, movies and my favorite characters and actors. Both Graphite pencil with ink and acrylic paintings on canvas are my specialities.
I’ve noticed you’re into portraits. How did you end up with this specific style?
Ever since a young age I’ve leaned towards drawing people and faces, it’s what’s interesting to me. In the past couple of years I’ve added the twist of tattooing these characters with relevant tattoos.
What got you interested in t-shirt design and how long have you been doing it?
I was contacted by numerous t-shirt companies wanting design work in the past, and I spent a couple of years designing for different companies. This is what lead me to create INKED IKONS t-shirts with my German partner, Toralf Stertze.
If you were to pick a favorite design you have created, which one would it be and why?
I have a few favorites, both of the Heisenberg pieces, the Joker and also the O.G Collection which consists of Clint Eastwood Christopher Walken and Jack Nicholson as this collection were some of the first color portraits I did.
Describe the general process you go through to design and realize a piece of work.
I will decide on an actor or character to draw then I spend time thinking up relevant tattoo ideas for that character. Usually things linked to some of the characters traits or if its an actor I will add tattoos that represent his best movies.
Do you have any wisdom you’ve learned along the way you’d like to share with other aspiring artists?
Never stop working, stay disciplined and dedicated to your art, find your niche and stay focused. Try to draw what you like and what you would like to wear, but always keep in mind what your audience might like.

I have a t-shirt addiction, a craving for new RTS video games and a dream to become Captain America. I also grow my own beard so I'm kind of a big deal! :P
