Last week I wrote about Crash Bandicoot and how it was one of the main forces for the Playstation platformer games in the battle against Nintento and Sega. It wasn’t alone though. There was the hugely successful Lara Croft with her pyramid shaped boobs, that were phenomenal for the time. And then there was the cartoonish and cute Spyro the dragon.
It was one of the first truly great 3D platformars. Spyro had to find out how to position the camera view while flying, doing 360 degree flips and do all that while shooting flames at his enemies. But that’s not the only reason Spyro was so cool. It has really nice locations, each of which had it’s own theme, and it’s own enemies. You also had special playable characters, and of course you could collect gems and eggs to make the game more difficult.
But the thing that made everybody love Spyro is just how cute he was. He’s a purple smallish dragon who has to save all the other bad ass dragons out there, even though nobody would seriously pick him on any other day. On playability along, Spyro 1 was cool, but frankly could be better. Spyro 2 and 3 were amazing though. It’s just sad to see that even after something like 20 years, they’re still making Marios, Sonics and Tomb Raiders, while games like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro pretty much stay forgotten. Not to say that any of those games were bad, but it would be nice to see some others make a comeback too.
Well, we haven’t forgotten them. We love them. We want more Spyro, more Crash Bandicoot, and more of all those little cute great games of the past. And I don’t mean some half assed attempt at getting our money. We want the real deal, a great game for a nostalgia buzz. Get some of these Spyro t-shirts we’ve found below if you agree with me. If enough of them get out there, maybe someone will notice. You never know.
