ExploreThe Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy is easily in my top three favorite books of all time. The other two are A Song of Ice and Fire, and The Name of the Wind, which is a completely different genre, so the Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy might be on the top of that list or on the bottom, depending on my mood. It is absolutely hilarious. Every single page is laugh out loud funny, and it amazingly full of quotable material. It’s truly a masterpiece written by Douglas Adams, who passed away much to soon.
Unfortunately it’s not towel day as I’m writing this, so I actually have no excuse, other than I completely and utterly love this book. Any sense of humor that I have in me, pretty much came from this book. I first read it when I was 16 and it left a huge impression on me, probably a bigger impression than anything else I’ve read since or before. I read that book about 10 times already and in two different languages.
The great thing about the book is that while it is science fiction, it is a science fiction in such a way, that it will never get old. When you watch a science fiction movie 20 years later, everything looks old and dated. With the Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy you don’t get any of that, because everything is so bizzare anyway, and the comedy works even if you’ve already read the lines 10 times before.
Of course the whole thing started as a BBC drama, and later evolved into everything from games to a full length movie that didn’t get a sequel (so it ended at one third of the story), but the book is by far superior to anything else. If you haven’t read it, you absolutely need to read it. Forget the Bible, if you read just one book in your life, let it be The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy. And since you’re reading this, you probably already read the book anyway, which of course means you’re a fan, so you should definitely get one of these Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy t-shirts!
