Did you know that the Care Bears went to the Cannes Film Festival? Well, neither did I. Seems like Care bears was hugely popular during the 80s and 90s and now they’re coming back big time. It all started back in 1983 when artist Elena Kucharik painted the Care Bears on greeting cards. The cards were so well received that American Greetings Corporation decided to launch a TV series from 1985 to 1988 and three feature films.
In January 2015 the card company announced that Netflix has commissioned a new series called Care Bears and Cousins and it is set to premiere sometime next year. Does that make you hype? Maybe if you’re still a kid. If you have no idea what Care Bears is here continue reading below and after that check out the Care Bears t-shirts I picked up for you.
The Care Bears are a group of cute and adorable furry friends, each with a special caring mission. Oh, and they live in a cloud world called Care-a-lot. Each care bear has a bright colored picture on their tummies that tells what’s their special area of caring. For example there’s a Birthday Bear who care only about birthday parties, cake and opening presents. Or Share Bear who loves sharing everything and teaches us that there’s no need to be greedy.
One point of inspiration in the Care Bears story was the legend of King Arthur. The name Care-a-lot comes from Camelot, Arthur’s castle. The Bears all met in the Care-a-lot castle and sat around a heart-shaped table. Like the Knights of the Round Table, the Care Bears set off from their castle into the world on missions of caring representing the powers of good. Even Love-a-lot Bear owes a lot about her name to the old tales. Her name is based on Sir Lancelot, one of the Knights of the Round Table.
