The Darkest Nightmare before Christmas T-Shirts

The Nightmare before Christmas is definitely one of my favorite animated movies. The reason is simple. It combines two of my favorite holidays, Halloween and Christmas. The movie came out about 22 years ago (yes, you are that old) and it became an instant classic. It’s actually a Tim Burton classic. Or is it? Well, no, not really. While he did give the idea for the movie, and the look of it, he was too busy doing Batman at the time, so the actual direction fell to Henry Sellick. They just kept Tim Burton’s name, since he is way more popular than Sellick.

Like I said, the movie is a mix of Christmas and Halloween, which is also where the inspiration for it came from. Since they’re fairly close together, the stores usually have decorations for both holidays at the same time, which sort of makes a clashing impression. Tim Burton originally pitched the idea as a television series, which would come annually, but nobody was bothered by it. It actually took about 20 years for someone to grab the idea, but as a full length motion picture.

Since it’s a stop motion picture, that means that they had to take 24 pictures for every second of the movie, so the artists actually started filming before they even had the final version of the script. The whole movie actually has 110 thousand frames. Can you even begin to imagine how much work goes into that? Neither can I. The hardest shot was supposedly Jack opening a door, where you could see his reflection in the door knob.

Though there are some straight to DVD sequels of the movie, made by Disney, Tim Burton himself never wanted a CGI sequel. He said it would ruin the purity of the movie, and I have to say I agree. Even though it would be awesome to see Jack visit the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy, it really wouldn’t feel right. And since we’re not getting that, we’ve put together a few Nightmare before Christmas t-shirts for you. Enjoy!
