I am a huge fan of the classic adventure games. One of the reasons why I’m not that much of a gamer anymore today is that they don’t really make any good adventure games anymore. Long gone are the days of Full Throttle, Dig, Monkey Island, Discworld, even Leisure Suit Larry. Just in case you missed it, I’m talking about games where there’s a lot of dialogue, where you pick your responses, filled with puzzles, where you need to combine items to solve puzzles. Grim Fandango was probably the last good classic adventure game.

It’s a noir adventure game set in the land of the dead. It was made by LucasArts, which pretty much did most of the awesome adventure games. You are a skeleton, who reaps the souls of the recently passed away, and you’re selling the passage into the afterlife. It was one of the first adventure games to try to do it in full 3d, which is part of the reason for all the skeletons. They were easier to make.

In addition, what I, and most other people who played it love about the game is the amazing story and an even better soundtrack. The soundtrack is easily one of the best in the video game industry (though I have to add the Full Throttle soundtrack here as well, as it just has some of the best motorcycle rock tracks ever made). The game simply has an amazing atmosphere, great acting, and it’s really unlike anything else you’ve ever played. It was also almost impossible to get (legally) for a very long time, because of licencing issues with LucasArts.

It has been re-released for the digital age of superfast computers, with updated graphics, so you can now play it on your laptop, PS4, Vita, Mac, or even Linux.
