Well, I guess it´s been quite some time since I wrote an anime themed article. So let me make it up to you with Kuroshitsuji or Black Butler. It is of course based on a manga, as usual, but it doesn´t follow it exactly. The story starts with a 10 year old boy who sells his soul in exchange for a black butler. Um, no, it´s definitely not what you think. The black butler in question is a demon who can pretty much do anything. What the boy wants in particular is vengeance. Vengeance for the people who killed his parents.
Two years later, the boy and the black butler are still together, and in simple terms, they become a crime solving duo, kind of like those old detective shows from the 90s, except nothing like that at all. But simple as that may sound, there is so much depth to the story, it has so many little plot twists and turns, that just make you want to rewatch as soon as you finish it the first time. You really need to pay attention to all the little details, because they just might become really really important later on. One little detail can change the story completely and you have no idea how that happened.
The only problem is that the anime does leave a few unanswered questions by the end. Maybe it´s because it doesn´t follow the manga precisely, or maybe it´s just that there´s too many little things that can make things confusing, but it´s the one thing missing from an otherwise pretty perfect anime. Everything else is superb, the art is fantastic, the music is awe inspiring, the voice acting is really good, and as I already mentioned, the story is unpredictable, which I love. All in all, I´m a huge fan, and if you are too, check out these Black Butler t-shirts below!
