ExploreWith the American Presidential campaign in full gear, and many of us being bombarded with politics on television, radio and social media, you’d think we’d be tired of them by now. But many of us are excited about the release of the fourth season of House of Cards. If we have not binge watched it yet, we have it scheduled for the near future.
Some may say that many of the people involved in this current election (and I won’t name names) are bungling idiots with no idea what they’re doing. So to watch Frank Underwood play a complicated chess game in Washington DC has a certain appeal. Yeah, he’s completely devoid of ethics, but these days, few people believe anybody in politics has any. So, hey, House of Cards may seem like a documentary, if again, we felt like the real politicians had a game plan.
Regardless of our reason for tuning in, we stay because House of Cards is a damn fine show. Each episode keeps us one the edge of our seats. Season 3 may have been more emotional than politically intriguing, but its cliffhanger ending has us clamoring for more. As Frank Underwood told us in the Season 4 Teaser: “America, I’m just getting started.” And with a fifth season confirmed, there’s no doubting the newest episodes will continue the wild ride of Frank and Claire and frienemies.
The main storyline in Season 4 will have to be the dissolving of Claire and Frank’s marriage. All signs are pointing to Claire divorcing Frank, but will they stay together for political reasons (and, for the show’s dramatic reasons)?
More importantly, how will the treat each other from here on out? Pitting the two of them against each other would not only cause a great amount of fireworks, but will have fans wondering which of them would actually come out on top. It would be like pitting Macbeth against Lady Macbeth.
And while they face their inner demons, will they be able to keep good outward appearances while they pursue their political goals?
At the end of Season 3, Frank’s re-election campaign was going well, having just won Iowa. But internally, he is despised. And if divorce is in the cards, how will he spin that in the papers? Or will he even have a chance before the press crucifies him? And you know Heather will just love to use such information against him.
Claire is running for congress in her home state of Texas. Looks like she will find more drama there than she bargained for. Spoilers say Claire’s mother will great affect Frank and Claire’s relationship in season four.
Personally, I hope to see more of Ellen Burstyn (who plays Claire’s mom). I just love her and the way she blatantly let’s Frank know he has no class.
It’s sure that Season 4 of House of Cards will focus on the crumbling (or crumbled) marriage and their mutual elections. But what other ghosts from the past will return to haunt the Underwoods? And speaking of ghosts, will Rachel’s haunt Doug?
