Just awe. It’s that simple. Between all the laughter and crying and screaming. There was just awe. There is no better way to describe what we had just watched. Allow me to elaborate. About 15 of my closest friends and I gathered together to celebrate the sixth season finale of Game of Thrones. You know, food, drinks, good friends and a great TV show. We were expecting something good. Game of Thrones always delivers a huge season finale. Something crazy, maybe one epic scene. Possibly two. That’s what we were expecting. We got something so much different and so much better. What then happened over the course of just over an hour was incredible. To see one epic moment after epic moment. With each scene outdoing the next. There was hardly a chance to breathe. The excitement was incredible. We were witnessing, in my opinion, they greatest episode of any TV show ever!
After last week’s exciting episode, “Battle of the Bastards,” no one was expecting for this episode to be as epic (I know, I use this word a lot. But when a word is perfect to describe something, you go with it, lol.), but it was. This week’s “The Winds of Winter” was literally explosive. It was just amazing, and at times, better than last week’s. And that was no easy task.
In King’s Landing, Both Loras Tyrell and Cersei Lannister were to stand trial for their actions. Loras Tyrell did show up and he pled guilty. He then begged for forgiveness and asked to serve the seven for the rest of his life. The High Sparrow granted it, and had his followers carve the symbol of the Seven in Loras’ forehead. When it was Cersei’s turn for trial, she was nowhere to be seen. She remained at the Red Keep. The Sparrow sent Lancel and the others to bring her to the trial. Lancel follows a child lurking in the area to the tunnels where he discovers candles burning next to all the barrels of Wildfire. It’s in the tunnels where Lancel is stabbed and dies before he can stop the barrels from exploding. As the wildfires explodes, massive flames moves through out the city, destroying everything, including the Great Sept of Balor, killing everyone there, including the High Sparrow, the sparrows, all the Tyrells, and all the members of the Small Council. Cersei planned this great murder and got revenge on all her enemies. Once again, after almost two seasons, Cersei is back in control. The one thing she didn’t count on was Tommen being so upset with what his mother did and the death of his wife, he jumped from a window to his death. With now losing the last of her children, Cersei has grown cold and bitter. Her final scene is of her being proclaimed Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.
In Dorne, The Queen of Thrones makes an alliance with Ellaria Sand for revenge against the Lannisters. To achieve their goals, they join Targaryen conquest of Westeros.
In Meereen, Danerys leaves Daario in charge to rule while she conquers Westeros. She then meets with Tyrion Lannister and appoints him as Hand of the Queen. I know, it doesn’t sound like much happened. That’s true. But what made her story for the episode so amazing was the final scene of Targaryen army crossing the Narrow Sea on hundreds of boats consisting of the new Targaryen, Greyjoy and Dornish ships, with the dragons flying overhead. Dany is heading home to Westeros!
At Riverrun, Arya Stark made her return to Westeros and took her revenge on Walder Frey for the Red Wedding, and the murder of her brother and mother. She took great satisfaction is letting him know that the last thing he would ever see is a Stark laughing as he dies.
At Winterfell, Jon banished the Red Priestess after she confesses to what she did to Shireen. Jon and Sansa make peace and agree to work together. Sansa has an awkward encounter with Little Finger, where he makes his intentions to sit on the Iron Throne with Sansa by his side known. Sansa literally tells him to dream on. The biggest part of what occurs at Winterfell is where, after receiving support from the other noble families of the North, Jon Snow is proclaimed the New King of the North!
The biggest surprise in the episode didn’t come from King’s Landing, Meereen or Wintefell. It came from the past as we confirmed the long awaited truth about Jon Snow’s mother. Through one of Bran’s visions, we learned that Ned found his sister dying after giving birth to a child father by Rhaegar Targaryen, the child turned would grow up to be- JON SNOW! My friends, the long favored fan theory of R+L=J turned out to absolutely true. Ned’s sister begs him to keep the child safe, especially from Robert Baratheon. Being the good man he was and to preserve the memory and reputation of his sister, raises the child as his own bastard son.
I have to wonder what will happen if and when Jon finds out the truth about his true parents? How will this affect his relationship with the Stark family, let alone his new position as King of the North? How will this impact Daenarys’ claim to the Iron Throne? How will Cersei react to that news? As much as we loved getting the long awaited answers, we are left with even more questions.
And what about the oncoming war between the Targaryens, Lannisters and Starks? Who will win? Who will side with whom? Who will you support? And the best way to show your support is to stock up on your favorite Game of Thrones T-Shirts!
All we can do at this point is speculate on what will happen next as the new season is about nine months away, and that season has been said to only be seven episodes long instead of the usual ten. Whatever they have planned, we will wait because after all this time, winter is finally here.
From our collection of game of thrones t-shirts, we bring you some epic ones to wear with every new upcoming episode:
