Let’s get one thing out of the way: Climate change is a thing. For some, it may be hard to come to terms with, or it may contradict what you have been taught. You might even be able to twist some skewed, isolated statistic to try and prove to your conscience that global warming is not actually happening. But let me assure you, climate change is one hundred percent, absolutely, unquestionably a thing. It’s so much a thing that scientists worked up an entire report on it.
But no matter how clearly we science it out, global warming continues to affect our world. Our actions, our species’s actions, corrupt Mother Nature and her resources. And because of us, Earth is losing its colors.
We do not appreciate what we have, and we do not realize what we won’t have. We’re throwing our picturesque mountain ranges and vibrant rainforests into the gutter as we drown the Earth in our overflowing oceans.
But even worse, we are not only hurting ourselves… We’re killing animals too! Just think about all the fluffy polar bears and all the baby reindeer. Right now, they’re the ones who are suffering as I type and as you read. At the very least, can’t we all agree that penguins are much too precious? We can’t just let them die!
And what are they supposed to do on ice cream dates now?!
Those cones look simply pitiful. When it gets hot out, you want to cool down. What better way to cool down than some chilly ice cream? But because it’s so hot, all the ice cream melts! It is a cruel and strangely ironic cycle, but it has got to stop.
And polar bears are feeling the heat from the big city. Defenseless and guiltless, bears are still facing nature’s trials, and they continue to lose ground everyday.
Some have already lost hope. This whole “end of the world” deal can be pretty upsetting, and it looks like it is bumming out more than a few polar bears.
But destiny has not already been written. Big or small, all our actions still make a difference out there. Our fate is not sealed just yet!
First things first, stop littering. Whether it is a can, newspaper, small child, or cigarette butt, garbage is garbage, and it belongs in a trash can. It shouldn’t end up in the Pacific Ocean or Yellowstone National Park.
Next, we need to establish respect. Humans have a pretty steady relationship with the environment, but recently we have taken advantage of it. We have exploited and mistreated the Earth, staining its oceans and polluting its skies. As in any relationship, respect is the first step. Respect the environment just like it is your own mother, your own home.
Finally, we need to spread awareness! Obviously, people know about climate change, but very few are doing anything to stop it. It’s like a burnt out light bulb or the political system. Everyone knows it is clearly broken, but everybody is just too busy (or too lazy) to fix it. But you can do something! Grab a megaphone, and spread the word.
Stop littering. Start respecting. Keep spreading. These are just a few things every single one of us can do to literally save the world. Earth is at one of its weakest points in all of history, and we have an obligation to our children and our grandchildren to help it out. So walk to work, grow a plant, and grab a t-shirt or two. What better way to protest the environmental abuses against our only planet than with some good old-fashioned t-shirts?
P.S. Here is a little message to those people who still deny global warming…
