Good Night Sweet Princess Leia: 21 Shirts to Honor Our Favorite Rebel

by on Jan 07, 2017

Of all the celebrity deaths in 2016, one of the most difficult came right at the end: Carrie Fisher. Though Fisher was a multi-talented humorist, author, script doctor and mental health advocate, there is no doubt that she will most be remembered for playing Princess Leia in the Star Wars saga. Leia was a smart, sassy and sexy character, and the woman behind her was even a bigger force to be reckoned with. And what’s saddest, this happened just as Carrie and Leia were having a renaissance, and now both of their stories have ended without a satisfying conclusion.

Honestly, I don’t know what I can say here that has not already been said about Carrie and Leia. I just want to pay homage to the woman who turned the damsel in distress character on her head. She showed generations of girls that a princess could be a bad ass. And that she could fall in love with a scoundrel, but never lose her strength. Yeah, and some creepy gangster can objectify her as a sexy slave, but that’s going to get him strangled with the chains he used to bind her.

And let’s talk about Fisher’s return to the role in The Force Awakens. Some not so nice folks dissed Carrie’s appearance in the film. To paraphrase her own statement about not knowing she signed a contract to keep the slave Leia body her entire life, I didn’t know she was not allowed to age while Luke and Han were. But she was now a General, one who had been fighting the same war for decades (and one she thought had ended 30 years before). That would weigh heavy on your appearance, and I really feel Carrie used that to give the revisit of the character some gravitas.

I will not give any spoilers on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but any reference of a certain Princess had cheers erupting with my audience. It proved to me that past, present or future, Princess Leia will always be in our hearts.

So here are some Princess Leia t-shirts that I feel honor the strength of both Princess Leia and Carrie Fisher.

“To me, she’s royalty.”
RIP Princess
