How Long Can You Hold Out For Outlast 2?

by on Apr 19, 2017

The next installment of one of the greatest survival-horror games ever made is finally almost here: how long can you hold out?

Outlast was one of the most innovative and truly scary survival-horror games ever released. In the first installment, you play as Miles Upshur, a Freelance Journalist investigating Mount Massive Asylum. The Outlast franchise revolves around a gameplay that doesn’t allow the player to attack opponents. Instead, you can only hide, armed with nothing but a simple camcorder.

So, you can understand why we’re so excited for Outlast 2. Red Barrels’ new installment will follow the experiences of another journalist, Blake Langermann, and his wife, Lynn, as they investigate the mysterious murder of a pregnant Jane Doe.

Langermann and his wife become separated after a helicopter crash, and you jump into the role as Langermann as he tries to make his way back to Lynn. Just one problem: the village the helicopter crashed in is inhabited by a crazy cult who believes the end is near.

Red Barrels originally slated to release the game Fall of last year, but due to complications, the game was delayed until sometime in the first quarter of 2017. It was delayed a second time, and now is due to be released on April 25th. Let’s take a look at some specifics:

Platform: Microsoft Windows (available on Steam), Playstation 4, and Xbox One.

Gameplay: The gameplay for Outlast 2 will be true-to-form for the series. Langermann can run, jump, climb, and sneak. He’s unable to attack opponents, and can instead only hide. The player must outlast long enough to find Langermann’s wife, solve the mystery of the murdered Jane Doe, and record the questionable operations of the cult he’s stumbled upon. The game won’t be a canned repeat of the first installment, however. Langermann is a cameraman, not simply a journalist, which means his camera features new abilities like night vision and zoom. He also wears glasses, and if these get knocked off, you’re going to have a heck of a time finding your way around until you manage to get them back on.

Hopefully nothing will happen in the next week that will push the release date back further. We’re not sure if we can handle the anticipation! But just in case, consider it an exercise in patience.

How long will you last?
