Great news everybody! X-files has been renewed for another mini-season. The adventures of Dana Scully and Fox Mulder will continue for at least a few more episodes. And there’ll be time to wrap up the cliffhanger from the last mini-season (and leave us with another one, no doubt).
If you were like me, the last mini-season left you with mixed feelings. It was great to see the band back together again. They looked great and they re-captured to feeling of the original X-Files. But the story arc of the season and some of the specific episodes didn’t quite have that magic of the previous seasons. Even the one funny episode felt like it were lacking something (though yes, I agree it was the best of the bunch). I know it could have been worse. It could have been an embarrassment. But overall it was fair.
Which gives me more hope for new episodes. With only six episodes in season ten, it was probably a little tough to get back into the groove. Now that they have one re-booted season in the bag, here’s hoping season eleven (which will consist of ten episodes) will take off like a shot.
Though there were early rumors that Gillian Anderson may not be available to reprise her role as Dana Skully, all the press from FOX (the network, not Mulder) states that both she and David Duchovny are on-board. I’m personally hoping for a San Diego Comic Con panel to give us a preview of what’s in-store.
Though one of the mantras of The X-Files is “trust no one”, I do have faith that Chris Carter and company will give us their best this season. And as I said, now that they’re back in the groove, I’m sure they will let their talents and imaginations run even wilder. Besides wrapping up the somewhat complicated story line from last season, I’m sure we will have some new mysteries as well as a new monster or two.
When last we say Mulder and Scully, they were shining under a light of a UFO. Something tells me that was a bit of a fake out, and it’s actually something created by the government. I only hope we find out what it was right away, and that this story is not the arc of season eleven. The whole virus thing felt a little too big and unweilding for The X-Files. Let’s hope they quickly find a cure for Mulder and the rest. As well as figuring out what the hell is going on with their son.
So here’s hoping they can clean up the mess that was the end of Season 10 quickly, and take the show back to fun individual episodes, with a more interesting (and less globally destroying) mythology running through it.
I want to believe… that the best is yet to come from The X-Files. For now, let’s just appreciate all of these X-Files t-shirts…
