23 Shark T-Shirts to Make Shark Week Last All Year Long

by on Jun 20, 2017

Sharks. One of the most dangerous, yet most fascinating creatures in the sea (if not on Earth). I can’t think of any other animal who has had so many movies, tv shows and documentaries made about it. People are just as excited to see sharks portrayed realistically, or way over-the-top (like in a certain tornado movie I will mention later).

Sharks are so popular, they have a week of television devoted to them every summer. The Discovery Channel began their now annual Shark Week festivities way back in 1988. It started as mostly educational documentaries about sharks, but as years went on, it became anything goes! From the serious to the ridiculous. It’s now an event many people look forward to and some even plan events around the week as well.

You’d think one week of sharks a year would be enough. But, no. This summer, there’ll be another terrifying shark movie on the big screen: 47 Meters Down. This one looks pretty intense, a couple of girls get stuck in a shark cage and while a bunch of sharks are just waiting for them to be served as dinner. Looks like a more intense version of that film Open Water that came out a few years ago. It was an indie film about a couple who got left behind on a scuba diving trip, in shark infested waters!

Seems like about once a year on average we have a new shark movie. Last year it was The Shallows. Most of these films are one or two people versus one or a school of sharks. They’re fun, fluffy horror movies. But I guess they’re a little more terrifying because they are (somewhat) more realistic creatures. Just as deadly as Jason, Freddy and Saw, but more of a chance that you could actually encounter ones. Though the odds of being attacked by a shark is one in well over ten million.

That still didn’t stop a generation of people to be afraid to go into the water. Steven Spielberg’s original Jaws is not only the grandfather of the summer blockbuster, but it may have been the beginning of our love for being entertained by sharks. Jaws 2 did coin the phrase, “Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water.” Though those were two stellar films, they spawned some of the worse sequels of all-time (I could do a whole blog on how bad Jaws: The Revenge is).

Google ‘shark movies’ and you’ll find so much cheese, you’ll need a ton of crackers. And in 2013, the SyFy network brought us the cheesiest of them all… Sharknado. A movie so terrible, with a concept so crazy, it’s awesome! It started a phenomena that is sure to have sequels coming for years to come. This year, we get Sharknado 5: Global Swarming.

I’d suggest deeming this the summer of sharks, but truth is, that’s every summer. So, why not show your shark spirit with a cool, fun or funky shark t-shirt.
