22 Funko Pop! Vinyl T-Shirts to Give You More Things to Collect!

In the world of geekdom, there are all types of collectors. I’m a comic book collector myself, I know rare. And I don’t even collect things that may increase in price, I collect writers and artists that I like. I may be a rare breed, because most of my geek friends collect action figures, statutes and prop replicas. Some collect specific characters and properties, other collect specific brands, and a few collect everything they can get their hands on.

But in the past few years, one collectable has seemed to grow in popularity at an amazing rate: Funko Pop! Vinyl characters. I’m still never sure how to explain them to people who’ve never seen them. They’re kind of like bobble heads that don’t bobble. They’re big headed, little bodied figurines with minimal features, but they come in almost every character you can imagine.

And people just go nuts over them! Case in point: San Diego Comic Con. In the past few years, I’ve watched as more and more booths began carrying Funko Pops! Now, some booths have their walls lined with them. From the best known to some harder to find ones. And don’t even get me started on the exclusives. People wait in line even longer than to get into the Game of Thrones panel for them. Waking up at the crack of dawn to go to offsite Funko booths as well. And if a SDCC exclusive ends up on eBay, it ends up being bid on through the roof.

How about you? Do you collect Funko Pops? If so, is there a specific series you collect? Or do you collect them at random? Or are you looking for the ones you think may skyrocket in value? Though to that last question, I have two words for you: Beanie Babies. Remember when everybody thought they were the next great collectible investment. They weren’t. That doesn’t mean some won’t increase in value in the future, but they will probably be the ones you least expect.

My hope is that you collect them for the enjoyment, like I do with comic books. You have no other end game but to have a great collection. So that leads to another questions. Are you an in the box collector?

Or an out of the box collector?

I know it’s the mortal sin of the collector to open packages, but sometimes, you want an item displayed in all its glory. Luckily, you can see most of the Funko Pops through the packaging. And they’re much easier to dust that way.

Probably the biggest reason to collect something like Funko Pops is the camaraderie. If you meet another collector, there’s an instant bonding (unless you’re fighting over the same rare figure). You can compare collections and stories of how you got them. So anything that helps bring the world together is OK by me.

I’ve often said that cool T-shrirts have helped me make friends. You see somebody wearing a shirt of something you like and you have an automatic ice breaker. So if at the next comic or collectable con you want everybody to know you’re a Pop fanatic, why not pick-up one of these shirts. They’re as random as the figures themselves!
