18 Epic Motivational T-Shirts Every Student Needs This Fall

by on Aug 31, 2017

For some of you, school has already started. Now, I don’t know about you, but I know that I always liked the first week of school. I loved getting all of the new school supplies, and loved meeting new classmates and new teachers…but if I’m honest, I was a bit of a nerd.

I mean, I still am.

But then, a few weeks in, it would all change. The motivation always slumped. My meticulous math-class notes would turn into doodles, and then morph into full-blown Doctor Who fanfiction (oops?). As my motivation slumped, my belief that I could catch up tanked. The more that tanked, my motivation followed – and thus the never-ending cycle continued until Finals Week, when I had a swift kick in the pants to study, and somehow usually pulled it together long enough to get my grades back up by the end of the semester.

I know I’m not alone.

School is rough. Getting motivation and keeping motivation is rough, too. There’s this little thing that science calls “self-efficacy”. Think of it like self-esteem. It’s essentially the belief that you are an effective person. You can get shit done. Most of us, later on this Fall term, are going to have a bit of a self-efficacy slump. The problem? Science says there’s a direct correlation between self-efficacy and your academic achievement.

It sounds super cheesy, but you really do have to believe in yourself this Fall in order to succeed. Science says so.

So, let’s give that self-efficacy a little boost. What better way to do that than with the clothes you wear?

When the going gets tough, you have to believe that you can do it, even if nobody else does. Nobody believed that Albert Einstein would amount to anything when he was a child. He took years to learn how to speak. However, his slow verbal development meant that he had an insatiable curiosity that lead him to success later in his life.

True story: half the battle of procrastination during school happens because your brain is overwhelmed by the possibility of “what if I fail?”. Don’t be afraid to fail. Be afraid not to try. Even if you can’t get that one math lesson right, or remember facts about the War of 1812, you can say that you tried. Besides, who knows what might happen if you spend that time studying? You might discover that you really like differential equations, or biology, or you might find out that you hate school and would rather become a welder.

Anything is possible. Don’t be afraid. Just stay focused and do the thing.
