29 Blade Runner T-Shirts To Prepare You For Blade Runner 2049

At San Diego Comic Con this year, Harrison Ford was asked if it was his plan to re-boot all his iconic roles. He replied: “You bet your ass!” And since this was at the panel for Blade Runner 2049, there’s no doubt that the next part of that plan is now complete.

Ford will revise his role as replicant hunter Deckard… but this time, is he the hunted one?

Blade Runner 2049 is scheduled to open this October, a month and two years before the famous date of the first film:

There’s a new Blade Runner in town: Ryan Gosling. And we’re back thirty years later to the future filled with neon lights, pyramid buildings and fire breathing chimneys. Gosling is on the search for Ford, but it’s unclear if it’s to deactivate him as a replicant (if he really is) or to get his help on a new case.

The first Blade Runner was a cutting-edge piece of cinema. It was a sci-fi noir… though the many subsequent director’s cuts deleted the Sam Spade like narration from Harrison Ford that was in the original release. (And it’s been almost assured that Gosling will not do any narration for the second one.) It showed a future both dark and fascinating at the same time. Where you can head off to work on one of the off-world colonies, and never know if that person living next door is a replicant gone rogue.

Blade Runner is considered by many (myself included) a cinematic masterpiece. It succeeded in creating an amazing futuristic world, complete with corporations, affluence and slums. So there is no doubt that there’s a great burden on Blade Runner 2049 to keep the style and the substance of the original film.

Though Ridley Scott is not involved in this sequel (I’m assuming he was busy filming Alien: Covenant), Denis Villeneuve is at the helm. He showed us last year that he knew his science fiction with Arrival. And with Prisoners he proved he knew characters. So I’ve faith he’s the perfect fit for this sequel.

The original Blade Runner was based on Philip K. Dick’s novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?”

There were three sequel books to the original, none of them written by Dick. And none of them are the plot of Blade Runner 2049. Which may be a good thing because those books were trying to merge the original novel with the movie. But instead we are in a new path with a new, original story. Yeah, that’s the one part that has me a little worried. But here’s hoping that all those involved felt the script was right before they got involved.

I can’t wait to get back into the world of Deckard and the rest. It was so rich in style and and atmosphere, there’s so many memorable images from 2019. I’m sure there’ll be just as many in 2049. And as we count the days, enjoy these t-shirts based on some of those fantastic images.
