Me Too Shirts: The Movement Goes On

by on Feb 01, 2018

A bomb exploded this past October when actress Alyssa Milano took to twitter and addressed a hot-button subject: sexual harassment. The tweet went like this: “If all the women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote ‘Me too.’ as a status, we might give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem.” It came on the heels of the revelation that notorious Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was being accused of egregious sexual harassment by dozens of women, including several very high profile celebrities. Following Milano’s tweet, the Me Too movement officially went viral.

Truth be told, the Me Too movement started long before Milano’s now famous tweet. The phrase being used in that manner was actually coined back in 2006 on MySpace (yes, that MySpace) by Social activist and community organizer Tarana Burke. Her purpose was to empower women through empathy. And while it wasn’t specifically aimed at victims of sexual harassment, it was meant for any woman who found themselves feeling vulnerable as they went about their lives.

Now, in 2018, the movement is stronger than ever before and showing no signs of stopping. In fact, it’s inspired a sister movement called “Time’s Up” that was founded by several celebrities at the beginning of this year.

To that end, we’ve scoured the internet and rounded up Me Too-related t-shirts so that anyone, woman or man, could show their support.
