Manoatoa Clothing – Do Good Arts Project!

by on Oct 23, 2013

Do Good Arts is an artistically driven t-shirt collection and eventually a full clothing line that will be made in the USA. Goal: to promote and support independent visual artists by putting their art on t-shirts. The artists that work with them will be painters, photographers, sculptors, and graphic designers. They’ll put their art on shirts while promoting the individual artist on their website. It will allow independent artists to not only gain added exposure through our website, but they’ll also be able to earn an income from the sales of the shirts.

Their goal is to promote dozens of artists, with the potential to offer hundreds of designs at one time. This will only be possible with some expensive equipment that will allow us to print on demand. For that reason the guys over at Manoatoa have taken the project to a fundraising website that we are already familiar with: Kickstarter. We already know how that works so let’s get to the specifics. Their fundraising goal is $45,000 in 30 days. So far after 15 days they’ve raised $4000. Kickstarter is all or nothing. If they don’t reach their goal they receive no money and backers aren’t charged anything. But you already know that! Let’s check out their video!

When they get funded, the next step is to open their print shop in Benicia, Ca. The equipment that they use to print with will also allow them to print on fabric which  will  be used to make a full clothing line that will include men’s and women’s shirts, beach wear, jerseys, and anything else that can be worn. All of this will be made in the USA with the goal to manufacture it all under one roof.

shirts

[interview quote=”Like a painting, our t-shirts will use the entire canvas when we print. The t-shirt art will cover the entire area of a t-shirt, from top to bottom, sleeve to sleeve. In t-shirt printing we call this an “all over” print because the design covers the entire shirt. Our shirts will literally be walking works of art.”]

Background check!

[interview email=”andreea@teehunter.com” text=”Hi Rob, tell us a little about yourself.”]

[interview email=”manoatoa@yahoo.com” text=”In 2005, I started a t-shirt brand called Manoatoa that focuses on Polynesian art and clothing. I printed my first t-shirts in my Dad’s garage in South San Francisco and took about 20 of them to the 2005 San Francisco Aloha Festival. I threw as many as I could carry over my shoulder and began to walk around. It was like I was selling popcorn and hotdogs. I sold out and knew that I was on to something. The Manoatoa brand was born. For the first five years we sold our t-shirts at various Pacific Islander events throughout California and Hawaii. In 2009 we displayed at a well known fashion industry show called the Magic Fashion Trade Show in Las Vegas. At its peak, Manoatoa was sold in stores located in Hawaii, the mainland USA, and France. For the past couple of years, I have slowed things down as I have focused on trying to piece together my new calling in life, Do Good Arts.”]

[interview email=”andreea@teehunter.com” text=”If you’d have to summarize Do Good Arts, what would you tell us?”]

[interview email=”manoatoa@yahoo.com” text=”Do Good in Do Good Arts means that besides helping to support artists and making a US made product, we’re going to donate at least 10% of each sale to people and organizations that need help. Do Good Arts will be a fundraising brand that will support good causes that give back to the community, helping to feed the poor, clothe the naked, and care for the sick and the afflicted. This is the biggest reason why I am pursuing this project, to bring artists together to use our talents to do good.”]

Now that you know everything about them, be sure to connect with them on Facebook and Twitter and spread the word!

For those who liked the t-shirts and wants one, or two, or maybe all of them, pledge here and make this project a success!
