Plane Clothing – Illustrations based on photographs!

by on Oct 28, 2013

Plane Clothing is an independent fashion and art label run from a small studio in East London by husband and wife team Gerry and Charlotta Buxton. Gerry created the brand back in 2005 when he started selling t-shirts on the markets in London.

All their prints are based on Gerry’s original illustrations. These illustrations based on photographs involve as many as 27 different photographs stitched together to make the composition the final print relies on. Once the composition is done Gerry painstaickly illustrates layer upon layer of detail to get a line drawing which he then shaded and colors to leave the final print. The prints are then done as beautiful signed and numbered limited edition screen prints and as open editions on the finest organic cotton tees and sweats.

Kickstarter Campaign – About

The next series of prints Plane Clothing want to release are from photographs they took in New York. They have done a series of 5 bold prints, each a portrait of a different New York neighbourhood, but they need your help to launch the series and have launched a kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the set-up costs and the first print runs.

The t-shirts will all be printed on premium Stella Stanley fairly traded organic cotton tees and there are 10 to choose from each design comes in different colour ways, each on white in the in stunning 4 to 6 colour sceen prints, and some as stunning yellow line drawings on black.

Why New York?

They have always been fascinated by New York. It’s one of the great world cities, where people and cultures from all over mingle and get along. Gerry and Lotta traveled to New York in April equipped with a camera, a sketchbook and (adequate) walking shoes. During the ten days they walked all over the city, taking photographs and getting to know the different neighbourhoods they wanted to portray.
