League of Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) videogame developed by Riot Games and inspired by the mod Defense of the Ancients for Warcraft 3 – The Frozen Throne. It was released on October 27 2009 and since then it was only grown in popularity. According to Forbes League of Legends was the most played PC video game in 2012 in North America and Europe in terms of number of played hours. Over 67 million people play the game, 27 million per day, and over 7.5 million concurrently during peak hours.

Gameplay? You assume the role of a Champion ( did I say there are over 100 Champions?) and battle with a team against other player or computer-controlled champions. The goal is to destroy the opposing team’s Nexus, a building which lies at the heart of a base protected by defensive structures.

League of Legends is so popular that there are even contests with money prizes. Last year the League of Legends World Championships had a grand prize of $1 million and attracted 32 million viewers online.
