You’ll never guess who accepted my invitation for an interview this week. None other than the famous painter Brian M Viveros, who also has a special shop for his fans on Design by Humans. Check out what we talked about!
How would you introduce yourself and your art to people who may not be familiar with you?
I’m a fine artist internationally embraced and known for my paintings of seductive doe-eyed smoking beauties from the world I’ve created which is The DirtyLand.
How did your paintings ended up on our T-Shirts?
I’m not really a T-Shirt designer. What I did is I started putting some of my iconic paintings on T-Shirts because of the demand from my fans. So I wanted to do something special for them, to have a place where they go to get them which is now exclusively through designbyhumans. While I was juggling my fine art career many many years ago I use to do some t-shirt commercial illustration work to pay the bills. It was a great learning experience.
Do you have any formal background in graphic design or are you a self-taught artist?
No formal training, I’m a self taught artist. I don’t even work on a computer, I’m a fine artist painter and traditional illustrator. I keep it old school but I’m not that old of an artist. That’s just how I roll – hahaha.
Describe the general process you go through to design and realize a piece of work.
Always the sketch is first for me. Once I feel the sketch is where I want it to be then I do a very tight version of it and transfer it onto maple wood panel and start laying in the oils. After that it’s juggling act of using the oils and acrylic to bring my piece to life.
When you aren’t painting those stunning beauties, what are you up to?
Always up to no good haha, I’m usually scheduled for upcoming exhibitions I have to prepare for or I’m working on a film. These things keep me really busy so there’s not much time for anything else accept for a good drink.
Do you have any wisdom you’ve learned along the way you’d like to share with other aspiring artists?
I do. Don’t sleep! Never stop working, stay disciplined and dedicated to your art, find your niche and stay focused. Most importantly, treat your Art like a business, take it fuckin’ serious! I’ve been around the block a few times in my time and have learned a lot about the business side of art and you need to know what’s up. Don’t let people walk on you, kick ass for your art and be smart.

I have a t-shirt addiction, a craving for new RTS video games and a dream to become Captain America. I also grow my own beard so I'm kind of a big deal! :P
