Quentin Tarantino, my personal favorite director, just started shooting a new movie. The Hateful Eight is going to be a western inspired movie with a Tarantino-like twist. There will be no good guys in the movie. A bunch of anti heroes with guns put together in a room while there’s a snow blizzard raging outside.
The movie is set sometime after the American civil war, when 8 bounty hunters, fugitives, renegades and other characters with bad background are forced to seek shelter in a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. Considering this is Tarantino, there should be plenty of very inventive and juicy dialogue and some intense scenes to look forward to.
The cast will be full of familiar faces for those of us who love Tarantino’s movies. It will include Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Madsen, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walton Goggins, Demian Bichir, James Parks, Zoe Bell and Channing Tatum.
Tarantino wrote the script (which was already leaked out, but supposedly there will be a new draft and several new endings) and will be directing the movie. Richard N. Gladstein, Stacey Sher and Shannon McIntosh will be producing, and Harvey Weinstein, Bob Weinstein and Georgia Kacandes will be executive producing.
Since Quentin Tarantino hates the digital media (he has said that he will make 10 movies, after which he will retire and start doing something else. This is his 8th movie) we, the fans will be able to enjoy the movie on the rare 70mm glorious super cinemascope widescreen.
“If we do our jobs right by making this film a 70mm event, we will remind people why this is something you can’t see on television and how this is an experience you can’t have when you watch movies in your apartment, your man cave or your iPhone or iPad. You’ll see 24 frames per second play out, all these wonderfully painted pictures create the illusion of movement. I’m hoping it’s going to stop the momentum of the digital stuff, and that people will hopefully go, ‘Man, that is going to the movies, and that is worth saving, and we need to see more of that.” – Quentin Tarantino
