Marvel Studios has announced a new partnership with Sony Entertainment in which an all-time favorite character Spider-Man will appear along with other Marvel comic characters. So all Spidey fans around the globe, you can break the bubbly.
This deal attracts attention because it fulfills desperate dreams of comic fans to see the wall-crawler’s chemistry with characters like Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel’s Kevin Fiege will look over the new version of Spider-Man along with Amy Pascal who recently stepped down in a new producer deal.
Back in 1999 when Sony bought Peter Parker for $ 7 million, it overlooked its image among the fans by releasing web-slinger’s adventures. This new deal between Marvel, now owned by Disney, and Sony will possibly bring Spidey next year in ‘’Captain America: Civil War’’ according to some sources. But fans should expect a new Spider-Man movie in mid-2017. Sony will continue to distribute, finance, own and have creative control over the Spider-Man franchise.
Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO at Walt Disney Company said in a statement:
“Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s great characters, beloved around the world. We’re thrilled to work with Sony Pictures to bring the iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up fantastic new opportunities for storytelling and franchise building.”
“I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. “Amy has been deeply involved in the realization on film of one of the world’s most beloved characters. Marvel’s involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU.”Sony chairman Michael Lynton added: “This is the right decision for the franchise, for our business, for Marvel, and for the fans.”
Sony didn’t handle Spidey’s character well in ‘’The Amazing Spider Man’’ series which caused utter disappointment among the fans and critics. Now Marvel jumping for the creative rescue of this $4 billion dollar franchise, it can be assumed that this coalition will most likely bring wonders among the die-hard comic community .That being said, it all depends that how much creative freedom will be granted to Marvel with Sony’s ultimate control of the franchise. Let’s hope for the best!!!
This deal comes after a much politicized cyber-attack by North Korea on Sony which caused losses in distribution of a controversial film ‘’The Interview’’. Sony’s agreement with marvel will most likely revive healthy progress within the community and things are expected to set pace as normal.
