Death Note, one of the best mangas ever made. A very dark one too. It follows the life of Light Yagami, a very prospectful student, who finds life extremely boring. But then one day, he finds a notebook, left behind by a Shinigami death god. The notebook is Death Note and it has a very special ability. It allows the user to kill anybody whose face and name he knows. All he has to do is write down the name and the person drops dead.

Now that might seem like a very scary super power, but Light is using it for good. He decides to rid the world of all the evil people. This works great at the start until the police realize that criminals began to drop like flies. When they can’t figure out what’s going on, they get a legendary detective called L to find the mysterious killer.

Light basically begins to act like god, deciding who lives or dies. But after he becomes the hunted, it’s not as easy killing only the evil, being the just person he once was.

Death Note is perhaps one of the darkest mangas ever made, even though it has it’s funny moments as well. It is very much worth a shot if you’re looking for a new gripping manga to watch. There are both Japanese and American versions of it. The unique story was written by Tsugumi Ohba and the amazing art was done by Takeshi Obata.
