The Unseen Discworld T-Shirt Round Up

by on Apr 16, 2015

Ok, this might be a bit of a geeky one, but I really really love the Discworld series by the recently departed Sir Terry Pratchett (we miss you!). It’s a fantasy series consisting of 40 books (so far), but it’s not a typical run of the mill fantasy series. No, this is comedy at it’s finest. Sometimes ridiculous, often satirical, and always packed full of laughter.

The Discworld is a world (and a mirror of worlds) in the shape of a disc (hence the name), or a pizza if you will, carried on the back of four giant elephants, who are in turn carried on the back of Great A’Tuin, a turtle swimming through space. It’s a place where magic is very real, and most things you can imagine actually exist. That means it’s a world full of wizards, witches, trolls, dwarves, gods, vampires and anything else that might seem magical. Like the cinema, or money.

If you’re just thinking about starting to read the series, I have to say that most people agree that it’s better to not read the books in the correct chronological order, since the first few books are written in a different style than the rest, and in my opinion they get better after the third book or so. It might be a better idea to read the books based on the individual character arcs. My personal favorites are Small Gods, Thud, Reaper Man and Thief of Time.

If you’re not all that into reading books, there’s also three fantastic movies (Hogfather, The Colour of Magic, and Going Postal) as well as two cartoons featuring Christopher Lee as Death. I really really recommend you at least try to check out the movies if you think the series is too much, but if you give them a try, I’m sure you’ll feel like you live in Ankh Morpork next to the Unseen University.

And now, as promised, the best Discworld t-shirts out there.
