ExploreTetris. I know what you’re thinking. It’s 2015 and we’re still talking about Tetris?! Well, yes… It’s only the most successul game ever made. Tetris, or Те́триc as it was originally written was designed and programmed by Alexey Pajitnov, a Russian programmer. It was an insanely huge success and it was also the first Russian game to be released in the USA.
The game was released on virtually every platform imaginable, from PC to gaming consoles, portable media players, graphic calculators, mobile phones and was even played on the sides of buildings. It was released on arcades as well as on the first computers that allowed playable games, but it’s huge success came after the release on the Gameboy in 1989. It has sold over 170 million copies, 100 million of which were for cell phones, which means it’s still very popular today. There are even plans to bring Tetris to Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
I’m pretty sure everyone knows how the game works. You get tetriminos falling from the top, and you need to fill all the spaces of a horizontal line so that that line disappears. There are seven different tiles falling and you can always see the next one to fall. In later editions of the game you also got bonus tiles that could blow up a few tiles, or take away all of a certain color, or make a vertical line disappear etc. The game also goes faster and faster the longer you play. It’s simple design gives endless fun, and no game is ever the same.
