Most people remember Daredevil from 2003, even if they don’t really want to. Let’s just say it wasn’t exactly Ben Affleck’s finest hour. You can take a look at the super funny Honest Trailer for it below, just in case you think you need to watch the movie.

Netflix’s Daredevil series is something entirely different. To put it very simple, Daredevil is the best comic book hero adaptation since the Dark Knight. It’s a very bold statement, I know, but it’s true. In case you’re unfamilliar with the story, Matt Murdock is a lawyer, practicing law by day, putting criminals away. And when that doesn’t really work he puts on a mask at night and fights them in a much more violent way. And oh yeah, he was blinded as a child, which heightened his other senses to a ninja level.

The thing that makes this series stand out among the others is first of all the surprising realism in a comic book story. It just feels real and gritty and violent, and it takes it’s toll on everyone involved. Second, the casting is superb. Charlie Cox plays a very convincing blind ninja who can feel everything around him at all times. Vincent D’Onofrio, on the other side of the spectrum as the Kingpin plays one of the more convincing villains ever put on the screen.

But perhaps the most important thing about it is that this is NOT a movie. Which basically means they have more time to tell the story, so it doesn’t feel rushed, with bits and pieces of back story told by narration. It takes it’s time to develop, and the more you watch it, the more you love it. It is after all Netflix’s highest grossing series up to date, and for good reason. If you’re looking for a good TV show, now that a lot of good ones ended, this is definitely the one to go for.
