Hey you wanna feel nostalgic and old at the same time? Back to the Future just recently had it’s 30 year anniversary. It was first released on July 3rd, 1985. But was it really as good today as it was then? Yes, it most definitely is. And better. The story is pretty much perfect. Yes, it has it’s plot holes, and time travel wouldn’t really work like that, but it’s still perfect from start to finish.

It’s one of those movies that get better when you watch them the second or the third time, simply because it has so many little details in it, that you might not even notice until you watch it again and again. Did you know you can actually see a miniature action figure of Doc Emmet hanging from a clock hand in the opening sequence of the movie? No? Neither did I, until I saw it on my probably 5th viewing.

The movie is full of great references, like the Chuck Berry one, where Marty playing Johnny B Goode in 1955 actually gives Chuck Berry the idea to write the song some years later. But since it’s a time travel movie it’s also full of awesome references about itself, like when a lady in the present gives Marty a flyer about repairing the clock, letting him know exactly when lightning will strike it in the past. Everything is perfectly connected even in Back to the Future 2 or 3, still just winding down on itself. They created a perfect setup of dominoes and then they just watch everything fall into place.

This is the reason why you still see memes today about “where’s my hoverboard”, for which we still have a few months time btw, since Back to the Future 2 happens on October 21st, 2015, and it looks like we might actually get one. Which is also why Back to the Future t-shirts will never go out of style.
