I’m going to come out and say it. Rayman is awesome. It’s exactly what I want from a game. It’s fun, it’s creative, and kind of crazy, colorful, and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. In a way it reminds me of Earthworm Jim. Don’t get me wrong, I like serious games. I loved Planescape: Torment, which is about as dark as it gets, but it feels really nice to play a game that doesn’t bring you down every now and then.

That’s especially true in this day and age, when most games pretty much seem to be using a 50 shades of gray color palette, with a bit of red added for gore. Rayman is definitely not that. He’s the kind of colorful hero, who will save the day with a smile on his face, and no matter what the enemies throw at him, he will always stay charming, and is even always ready to throw a hand at them. He’s not the macho of Duke Nukem, he’s not scared to look stupid.

The thing that makes him really special though is the fact that he has no limbs. He has hands and feet, a body and a head, it’s just the things in between that are missing. Now a normal person would be a bit troubled by that, but not Rayman. He throws his hands around like a weapon, when he throws a punch, he really throws a punch. He uses his weird hair shaped tentacles to fly in the air, and his feet make him jump higher than his knees would normally allow.

Rayman is a really unique game, and it is also a very feel good game, and if you’ve never played it before you won’t believe how much you’ve been missing out on.
