Crash Bandicoot was an American game that was originally exclusive for Playstation. I first played it on PS1 and it was awesome. I actually preffer the second and the third game but the first one was still awesome. It has since then had 18 different games and has sold 50 million copies worldwide, which is quite an amazing feat.
When you talk about Crash Bandicoot you sooner or later get to the point when someone mentions the console wars. At the time before it’s release, Sony was already in the lead from Nintendo and Sega, but it didn’t really have any platform hero worth mentioning. Nintendo had Mario and Sega had Sonic, and they were both giants in terms of popularity. Then came Crash Bandicoot. I won’t say it was more popular than either of them, but it did have a huge advantage. It was in 3D and ran from a CD instead of a cartridge.
Ok, so maybe it wasn’t the most original of games, but it did have character. And not only that, it also had something that neither Mario nor Sonic had. Bonus Rounds, Gems and Relics made you want to finish every level with a perfect score, giving the game a great replayability factor. To be completely honest, the game should have probably stayed a trilogy. The first one was kind of ground breaking, the second and the third were simply awesome, and then it kind went down hill.
But be that as it may, people are still crying out for more Crash Bandicoot, even today. We need a good reboot. Why we’re not getting one I’ll never understand, but there really should be one. If you’re like me and you miss old Crash, take a look at some of these fantastic Crash Bandicoot t-shirts we’ve picked out for you below.
