Top 10 Greatest Super Villains in the Marvel Universe
VULCAN
Every X-Men fan knows of the Summer brothers, Scott (Cyclops), Alex (Havok) and Gabriel (Vulcan). Out of the 3 Summers brothers, Gabriel is the one who can call himself the most powerful. He took his name Vulcan from a book on Roman mythology. Vulcan’s power allows him to mentally control as well as adsorb large amounts of any type of energy.
DARK PHOENIX
Despite appearing in only one story arc, the Dark Pheonix was the central villain in the most iconic X-Men story ever produced. After being exposed to lethal radiation, Jean Grey emerged as Pheonix, a physical form of the cosmic. Partially owing to Jean Grey’s prior status as a heroine, and to her destruction of an entire galaxy, the Dark Phoenix remains one of the most shocking and effective villains of Marvel Universe.
ANNIHILUS
Annihilus reigns supreme in Marvel’s Negative Zone. This insect-like villain came to life when a ship carrying alien spores crached on a planet Arthos. Evolving from a weak insect into a brilliant warrior thanks to his creators’ technology, Annihilus set out to destroy any and all life he saw as a threat. Over the years he fought the Avengers, Fantastic Four adn nearly every other Marvel superhero team.
GALACTUS
Galactus isn’t an alien, or a god … but a bit of both. He has to feed on living planets to stay alive and has the power to do just about anything: transform matter, teleport, create life, revive the dead…you name it. Even the brilliant Reed Richards couldn’t tell just where Galactus’ powers ended, but exploiting his weak spots has saved Earth more than a few times.
APOCALYPSE
No mutant could ever make the X-Men tremble like Apocalypse. Born in the Ancient Egypt he is one of the world’s first mutants. Also known as En Sabah Nur, he’s able to reshape his body, is immortal, has super human strength, invulnerability, teleportation, flight and is an absolute genius among other things. His goal? Taking over Earth and mutantkind to separate the weak from the strong.
KANG
Kang is a time traveling conqueror with vast powers and technological supremacy. He has taken every opportunity to torment the Marvel Universe and is one of the Avengers greatest foes, Kang has amassed an empire with a citizenry of millions, and cut a swath of terror through the ages.
ULTRON
Many non-comic readers got their introduction to Ultron as the main villain of this summer’s sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Created by Hank Pym, this artificial intelligence has dedicated itself to wiping out humanity. Considering his computerized consciousness and a body made out of Adamantium, he’s able to swap bodies and upgrade itself making him a threat the Avengers will never be truly able to defeat.
MAGNETO
Since his introduction in the ’60, Magneto has straddled between hero and villain. As the founder of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Magneto has often been one of Marvel’s most ruthless villains. He has played many roles in his long life: prisoner, survivor, terrorist, savior, conqueror, teacher, villain, and anti-hero. Magneto is the X-Men’s oldest foe, and one of their greatest allies who has since lost a large portion of his power and is currently part of Cyclops’ mutant revolution.
THANOS
Thanos is a mutant Eternal with the Deviant gene. This makes him unique and extremely powerful, even among his own kind. Thanos loves and worships Mistress Death above all else. Few can match his intelligence, strength or ambition. He has wielded the Infinity Gauntlet and The Heart of The Universe, briefly morphing him into an omnipotent being.
DOCTOR DOOM
I guess you guys were expecting this. Doctor Doom is the smartest man in the Marvel Universe, but like all great villains, his hubris blinds him to his own potential. One of his most sickening evil deeds was sacrificing the love of his life to a pack of demons in order to receive ultimate magical power. They granted his wish by crafting him a new enchanted armor out of her skin. So if you were wondering why he’s our number 1, wonder no more!
So, what do you guys think? Did we miss any of your favorite Marvel super villains?
