ExploreNowadays everyone complains how cartoons these days on Cartoon Network suck. I agree, though there are a few exceptions. One of them is of course, Regular Show. I found out about Regular Show through Adventure Time (I love it btw) and it didn’t disappoint me. The thing I like most about Regular Show is that it takes mundane situations and turns them into surreal adventures. Even ordinary chores such as setting chair at the table or preparing hot dogs have devastating consequences if you don’t do them right (at least in the show).
The main characters are Mortdecai and Rigby, a couple of slackers who live only for the moment and constantly get into trouble due to their irresponsibility. However they always end on top of things through some hilarious twists. Every episode is unpredictable, literally anything can happen.
Plain and simple, this show is hilarious. But where it really shines is nostalgia. People who grew up in the 80s and the 90s will love it. One great example is the Over the Top episode, in which Skips accidentally kills Rigby during an arm-wrestling match and after that he decides to arm-wrestle with Death in order to bring Rigby back from the dead. Another example is the constant montages set to old tunes such as Hang Tough and Workin’ for the Weekend.
Regular Show is not a kid’s cartoon, and not because it’s sometimes vulgar or inappropriate. The funniest jokes in the show are made for people who grew up in the 80s, geeks that can pick out the references and appreciate the parodies. If you’re a grown up, give it a chance.
