Dephect 'Buy Records' Capsule Collection

by on Mar 17, 2012

The gentlemen behind UK streetwear label Dephect are big vinyl lovers. ‘Buy Records’ is a campaign launched by Dephect in spring 2012 intended to help increase awareness of vinyl and it’s importance as a musical format. They came up with this slogan tee which is actually pretty relevant, for more that just vinyl at the moment. With services like Spotify and iTunes keeping music digital – now more than ever we need to support physical products. Because, if like me, you’re a fan of the artwork, booklet, feel of owning a tangable product then you won’t want to see music only living in the cloud in five to ten years.

“Hip Hop and DJ’ing have been a big influence on us from an early age, so imagery and artwork featuring vinyl has always been prominent in Dephect’s collections since the brand was founded. We also help produce and promote new independent records released by our friends and labels we are affiliated with,” they explain.

To coincide with the campaign Dephect has released 2 t-shirts, one with the simple message ‘Buy Records’ and the other with an exclamation mark made out of a label and reflection from a record. The sentence underneath the ‘Buy Records’ text on the tshirt reads ‘support independent music and help keep vinyl alive’. While the statement itself is obvious, there is also good reason behind it; “having grown up being immersed in a culture where vinyl played such an important part in the development of the music we love, it’s sad to see it’s decline and watch digital formats taking over. We’re all for embracing technology, but still feel there is a good place for vinyl within modern music, and that records should still be pressed, sold, bought and played by music fans all over the world.”
