When you think about it, 50 years sound like a long time ago (regardless of what galaxy you’re in). There were no smart phones back then or computers or tablets. People actually had to use dial phones stuck to the wall. There weren’t hundreds of television channels, just a few… and you had to get up to change the channel! People cooked things in the oven, not the microwave. We hadn’t even sent a man to the moon yet, never mind sending probes to orbit Jupiter. Wow, 50 years ago does sound like the dark ages, doesn’t it.
But yet, 50 years ago, television took a giant leap into the future. On September 8, 1966, a little show called Star Trek was transported into people’s living rooms. Thus beginning a phenomena that continues to this day. Though I’m sure that none of those people involved in the show half a century ago would believe that it would spawn three more series, with a fourth on the way, twelve big screen movies, with a thirteenth on the way, hundreds of books and tons and tons of merchandise.
I dug up some cool merchandise to help you celebrate Star Trek’s golden anniversary. I got some shirts, of course, but for this blog, I’m also going to explore some strange new merchandise. Shop long and prosper….
