The first full day of San Diego Comic Con (Thursday) was fun-filled, but still a little calmer before the storm that is sure to come this weekend. It was so low-key, I was able to walk into Ballroom 20 (the largest room next to Hall H) shortly after noon, AND found the room less than half full (or more than half empty for you pessimists).
CBS had the room slated for a few hours. I arrived just as the Scorpion panel was ending. Next up was American Gothic, which I’m ashamed to admit I thought was coming soon, but is already midway through the run. Seemed interesting enough that I may check it out On-Demand. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stick around for the McGyver panel.
You may want the scoops on the next seasons of Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, but I got better than that! A scoop from Transformers: Robots in Disguise. Starscream will show up next season. Bam!
Yeah, it’s great watching panels about your favorite shows and movies, where you get to see a star or two. But for me, Comic Con is about being in the same room with people who are passionate about the same things you are. That is why I enjoy panels like The Best Movies of 1986 (Blue Velvet, perhaps?) and The Best Movies Never Made (Did you know Eddie Murphy was originally supposed to play the Marine Biologist in Star Trek IV?). To hear a bunch of industry folks review the past and what might have been with such a passion is a great deal of fun for me.
And you occasionally learn something, too. Did you know they made a Locke & Key pilot five years ago? It was even show at SDCC. But sadly, it was never picked up.
Here’s another piece of SDCC advice. When you look at the program, make sure you read it closely. When they said they were showing the Rocky Horror Picture show, I assumed they were showing the 1975 classic. Wrong! It was the first 20 minutes of the new TV movie.
I will save my review for when I see the entire movie. But from what I saw there were things I really liked and some things… Not so much. But it was nice to hear the cast and crews’ experiences, including Lou Adler who produced the original.
As for cosplay, as I guessed, so many Haley Quinns. And Deadpools, too! My favorite cosplay of the day:
As for my T-Shirt of they day, I took the road of conformity and wore a basic Superman shirt. Of course, I added a Superman dress shirt and Superman socks to complete the ensemble.
On to Day Two!!
