I heard a question on the radio this week: “It’s not Christmas until…?” Well, for me, it is not Christmas until I’ve had my first viewing of A Charlie Brown Christmas. For over 50 years, Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang have been warming hearts in the holiday TV classic.
I’m not sure why Charlie Brown’s search for the true meaning of Christmas continues to entertain through the decades. Maybe because half a century later, Christmas is still commercial and many of us need a remind about “what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.”
Besides the television special, Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang have become ingrained in our images of the holidays. Their images adorn holiday ornaments and decorations. Charlie Brown may not get any Christmas cards, but mailboxes all over the world are filled with greeting cards featuring his picture. Plus there are tons of Peanuts clothing items: pajamas, hats, slippers, sweaters and… T-shirts! Go figure!
Within the past few years, one of the more popular holiday items has been reproductions of the Charlie Brown Christmas Tree. Who can forget that poor little tree:
Before it was miraculously transformed into a good tree:
It’s so funny how that term has entered our lexicon. How any sad looking Christmas Tree is immediately labeled a Charlie Brown Christmas tree.
Another popular reference from A Charlie Brown Christmas is the dancing kids. Personally it is one of the few things in this world that makes me laugh every single time I see it. And if not publicly, at least privately we’ve all tried to mimic one or more of those dance moves.
And speaking of music, the soundtrack to the special, A Charlie Brown Christmas by The Vince Guaraldi Trio, is the first Christmas album I listen to every holiday season. It’s always a treat to hear “Linus & Lucy” on the radio this time of year.
So pour some hot cocoa into your Snoppy mug and take a look at these other Charlie Brown Christmas T-Shirts. They’d make great presents for pretty girls.
Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown!
