The song “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” has been around since 1939. So, by now it’s pretty clear that this Santa’s helper has gone down in history. If not for the song, certainly for the televisions series inspired by it. Who would have thought that a character created for a department store advertisement would go on to light up our hearts every holiday season.
But Rudolph’s message is one that shines through even in this day and age. That sometimes, what others may think makes you different, or a misfit, is what makes you special and something the world needs. Yeah, you could say that Santa only used Rudolph when he needed him, or perhaps maybe it was that need that helped Rudolph find his place.
I won’t get too philosophical over a Christmas cartoon, but for those of us who ever felt like misfits in one time or our life or another, Rudolph and friends reminded us that in no time, we’d find out place. Hey Rudolph, it does get better!
And though Rudolph may be the hero of his story, he hangs out with some pretty cool characters: Herbie the Elf who wants to be a dentist, the Han Solo-esque Yukon Cornelius, a whole lot of weird and creepy misfit toys, and one angered, then tortured Bumble.
So for this holiday season, and all year through, why not show your solidarity with Rudolph and his friends with these 17 Rudolph shirts. He is the most famous reindeer of all!
And a few mash-ups:
And the lesser known holiday character: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Shark!
Merry Christmas!
